  • Stop shopping for shoes in a bakery – you’ll only get a heel.

  • $360 billion given away – mostly by ordinary people – is that a lot of money?

  • Crafting a sensational, sizzling story is vital.

  • Every decision is based on emotion.

  • Be careful with your statistics – too many facts and figures complicate the message.

  • Paint that picture of “the one.”

  • Take the donor as close to the outcome as possible.

  • Fundraising is all about proximity – the donor has to see themselves or someone they care about in the context of the problem.

  • Don’t oversell your outcomes – everyone loses!
